November Okefenokee Platform Camping

Service Description

We'll be heading out on a Sunday, and heading back in on a Tuesday. Trust us, it's worth using a couple of vacation days at work if you need to. Many of you may have visited the Okefenokee in the past but if you have never camped in the middle of the swamp on a platform you have missed out. (No, gators do not attack us on the platforms.) You are away from noise and light pollution. You will not believe how beautiful the night sky can be. And don't get me started on how magical the swamp is. We will meet at 9:30 Friday morning in the parking lot at the main park entry in Folkston, get loaded and be on the water around 10. We paddle 11 miles to the platform at Round Top where we will spend our first night. There is a platform with a porta potty about halfway where we will stop for lunch. After the sun goes down you will have the opportunity to paddle in the dark if you so desire. The swamp is different at night. Saturday after breakfast we paddle about 10 miles to our next platform at Cedar Hammock. Again, a platform about halfway for a lunch break. Sunday, we have a short 3-mile paddle back to the cars. We will be off the water early enough for you to explore more of the park, see the museum and take in the board walk. We provide a tent, a cot, and meals. Yes, there will be HOT COFFEE every morning. You simply bring a change of clothes and a personal sleeping bag. In dry bags of course. More details will be mailed before the trip. This trip is limited to 6 guests. As of today, September 9, only 3 spots are left. Cost of the trip is $400 per person. If you need to rent a boat that is an additional $75. All of our platform trips in the past have been private and never opened to the public. This will be your first chance to join us.
